Of all our 5 senses, smell is one I love the most.
The sweet scent of a blooming flower, freshly cut grass, salty beach air, sunscreen, and spices like cinnamon, clove, and pinecones at Christmas time… they are all fast to elicit warming memories and the nostalgia of a happy fun childhood running around barefoot and free.
Recently I have been basking in this kind of Bliss… eating Bliss… consuming Bliss… lathering Bliss all over my body, I have found something which makes me wildly happy and passionate…just like running barefoot and free.
I have found a new way to support myself emotionally, and a way to practice intentional self care Every.Single.Day.
One thing I have realized in my journey north from rock bottom is that…
Not only is it OK to tell yourself you are doing a good job, but it’s Absolutely Freaking VITAL!
I kept waiting for someone to tell me I was being a good Mum (not that I would have believed them anyway), and that my family were lucky to have me, and then one day it occurred to me that hey, I am a good mum. I might have a lot of shit days (though thankfully they are getting less), and I might yell at the girls alot more than I would like (#toddlersdontlistenunlessyouyell), but deep down I know I AM a good mum.
I love my girls.
I protect my girls.
I laugh and I play with my girls.
I (try) to feed my girls well (not that they’ll eat it, but that’s for another post).
And I listen to my girls.
The ability to believe in myself went AWOL for a while, but as the Universe always seems to do, it has thrown people and reminders into my life to snap me the flick out of it.
All this newfound Bliss has come from a place that is teaching me to get back into intentional self care. It is reminding me that personal development is crucial. And giving me heart palpitations and sweaty palms from being so damn excited about setting BIG GOALS and an even BIGGER VISION.
I am doing things right now that I would never have thought I would have the courage to do.
For example, last Thursday I was interviewed for the Sistermixin’ podcast The Whole Circle. I chatted publicly (podcast released 28th Dec if you want to tune in) about my experience with PND and what finding my bliss has been all about. I spoke about the support I received from my incredible Naturopath to come off antidepressants and the encouragement and seed that was planted by her to call on essential oils like vetiver and lavender for emotional support.
Last weekend I put myself out there and held 3 DIY Gift and Essential oils classes with around 25 people…Me…I did that. The 30kgs overweight, incredibly self-conscious, social anxiety ridden little old me. And you know what? It felt good, it felt great. Because as the legend Peta Kelly says:
Courage comes before Confidence
So I guess what I’m getting at here is, what are you waiting for? What is it that you think you can’t do YET? What will be the right circumstances? How many excuses will you let jump in front of your dreams before you take action?
Leave me a comment and let me know, just remember what YOU write could inspire someone else into ACTION xx
- 150g Almond Meal
- 70g Coconut (shredded or desiccated is fine)
- 8 Medjool dates (deseeded and soaked in boiling water 10-20mins)
- 2Tbs Raw Cacao
- 1Tbs Rice Malt Syrup
- 3Tbs Virgin Coconut Oil
- 1/4 cup dairy free dark choc chips (optional but delish!)
- 4 drops doTERRA On Guard Essential Oil
- 1/4-1/2 cup desiccated coconut for rolling
- Place all ingredients (except choc chips & Essential Oil) into a food processor and blitz on high until well combined (Thermomix 45sec s7, scraping down sides as needed). Mixture will be pretty sticky.
- Throw in choc chips and essential oil and blitz again on med just to evenly distribute (TM 10sec s5)
- Roll into desired sized balls and roll into desiccated coconut.
- Place in fridge to set for at least an hour or two, store in an airtight container and eat within a week (but I'll bet they barely last a day- at least that's the case in our house!)
I haven’t tried the recipe using ground spices for the flavor instead of the essential oil, because well I am kinda obsessed at the moment with the On Guard blend. And not just for the beautiful spicey flavor it imparts on the bliss balls but it also adds another dimension to add to a drop or two to a bowl of water soaking apple slices. It’s a warming blend to diffuse through the house to ward off evil…wait, by evil I mean of course nasty germs… and I even dilute it with carrier oil and roll it on the soles of my girls feet before bed if I am suspicious of a cough or sniffle.
BUT if you haven’t yet purchased On Guard and you wanted to try to match the spicey goodness these babies have then I would experiment with ground ginger, ground clove, ground cinnamon and a smidge of ground nutmeg.
I will post below how to get your hands on some delicious Christmas Spice (aka On Guard) if you are interested and some more information on the therapeutic benefits that this wonderful gift from Mother Nature boasts.
From our family to yours, we hope you have a safe and very Merry Christmas xx
